Lucinda's vibrant new work reflects her passion for nature and travel. Recently the element of visual memoir has emerged from recycling parts of earlier work into layered compositions. Various media from watercolor, drawing and prints, to cloth, wood and handmade paper can be cut up and juxtaposed to create a thematic collage of imagery.
A teaching job in India in 2006 immersed the artist in the saturated color and design motifs that appear in many of her pieces. She uses handmade stencils inspired by fabric designs and traditional Rangoli taught by the Indian women she met there.
Lucinda is as much influenced by the natural beauty of this area and the richness of creativity found here. A watercolor of a magnolia branch or an ink drawing of a fennel plant spring from this locale.
A synthesis of these influences is important in her continual discovery and evolution in the studio.
Most recently she was the featured artist at the Woodstock Land Conservancy annual Gala in May. Cabane Studios in Phoenicia represented Lucinda Knaus from 2010 until it’s closing in 2013.
